The 120 golfers who participated in National Jewish Health’s Kunsberg Classic probably would have signed up even if the tournament was held on a putt-putt course. Still, it didn’t hurt to have it at one of the greatest courses around — — and to schedule a thank-you dinner at one of the area’s most popular steakhouses, Shanahan’s.

When all was said and done, $200,000 had been raised for on the National Jewish Health campus.

Kunsberg serves children with conditions that include severe asthma and allergies, sickle cell anemia, diabetes, HIV, AIDS and other respiratory, cardiac and immune disorders. Dr. Michael Salem, the president and chief executive officer of National Jewish Health, says Kunsberg “Provides a safe, friendly and healthy school environment for children … many of whom have fallen behind their peers in traditional school settings. At Kunsberg, they receive care and learn to manage their illnesses from three nurses and National Jewish Health pediatricians. They benefit from small classes led by teachers with advanced degrees who use the latest educational technology tools.”

Eddie Robinson of Robinson Dairy chaired the Kunsberg Classic with Marc Steron, the managing partner at Shanahan’s. Both are members of the National Jewish Health board of trustees. Their committee was made up of Paulette Brody, Stanton Dodge, David Engleberg, Josh Hanfling, Michael Harms, Steve Kris, , Lots Pook and Scott Robinson.

A silent auction at the dinner added $10,000 to the tournament proceeds, thanks to high bids on items that ranged from a guided fly fishing trip for two and a year’s worth of wine from Argonaut Wine & Liquor to a hot air balloon ride and an indoor skydiving experience.

Sponsors of the event included RE/MAX, GE Johnson, Mortenson Construction, RK Mechanical, Kuni Lexus, Leftin Investments and Sysco Foods.
